Who this is
HS Code Desk is built and maintained by Mahum Jamil, who is the site operator and, for GDPR purposes, the data controller for the data described below — contact: hello@hscodedesk.com.
What this site doesn't do
There's no account system, no login, and no form on this site that asks for your name, email or shipment details. Code lookups, the duty calculator and the validators all run on what you type into the page — nothing you enter into a tool is stored against you or sent anywhere beyond what's needed to show you the result.
What we collect
Analytics. We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand which pages are useful and how visitors find the site — things like which pages were viewed, approximate location at country/region level, device and browser type, and referring site. This is aggregate usage data, not a profile built around you individually. Google Analytics uses cookies to do this; you can block or clear them in your browser at any time, and the site works fully without them.
Advertising cookies — not live yet. This site plans to carry ads (Google AdSense, and later Raptive) to stay free to use. Once ads go live, the ad provider will set its own cookies or similar identifiers to serve and measure ads, which may include personalised advertising unless you opt out through the consent options they provide. This section will be updated with the specific providers and a cookie-consent banner before any ad cookies are switched on — right now, no advertising cookies are set by this site.
Server logs. Like any web server, our hosting infrastructure (Google Cloud Run) keeps standard technical logs — IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user agent — for a limited period, for security and abuse prevention. These aren't used to build a profile of individual visitors.
Third parties we use
- Google Analytics (Google LLC) — usage analytics, as above. See Google's privacy policy.
- Google AdSense (Google LLC) — advertising, once live. See Google's ad policy.
- Google Cloud Run (Google LLC) — hosting, standard server logs as above.
- Google Search Console (Google LLC) — aggregate search-performance data (which queries and pages appear in Google Search); does not identify individual visitors.
We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with anyone beyond the processors listed here, who each act as an independent controller/processor for the data they collect on this site.
Your rights
If you're in the UK or EU, UK GDPR / EU GDPR gives you the right to ask what data is held about you, to ask for it to be corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (the ICO in the UK, or your local data protection authority in the EU). If you're in the US, similar rights may apply depending on your state (for example California's CCPA/CPRA).
Because this site doesn't collect names, emails or account data directly, most of what's held about you sits with Google as described above — you can manage or delete your Google Analytics and ad personalisation data directly through your Google account, or opt out of Google Analytics tracking site-wide using Google's browser opt-out add-on.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect changes — most notably when advertising cookies go live — this page will be updated and the “last updated” date above will change. There's no separate notification mechanism since there are no accounts to notify.
